the start of another addiction

Oh no... Addiction is a hard thing to shake. What am I addicted to you ask? Well, it may be socks.

I took my first sock class at Threadbear with Rob last night and had a great time. We're learning on DPN's but I'm already planning another pair. Maybe I'll try it on circs, either magic look or using 2 circs like Rob.
Here's a pic.
It's just the cuff but I think it's progressing nicely. We're using a "Knit to Fit" pattern by Nancy Lindberg and it allows you to customize the size of your sock. Just knit a gauge swatch and do some simple multiplication and division and you are off and running. Here's another pic from the top view.
I chose Cascade Fixation for my first pair of socks. It's economical and super stretchy like socks you'd find at a store. This first pair is for me. I'll make my second pair for my SO.

Our homework for the next two weeks is to knit the rest of the cuff and heel flap. I think I'll be able to do that! I think socks are going to be my perfect almost instant gratification project. I wish I'd learned to knit them sooner.
Here's a progress pic on the "Somewhat Cowl"

I'm almost to the part where you can join it in the round. I have about 1/2" left to knit before I can do that. I'm so tempted to just join it now but I don't want to end up with something that I can't pull down over the breasts! Not that I think I'll have a problem or anything...

Socks! What fun. I also took a "private lesson" on sock knitting. It helps a lot!!

Can't wait to see the finished project.

Socks are sooooo much fun - I'm a new sock junkie!!! The Somewhat Cowell is on my list to research, I'll be interested in how you do and what your take is.

Socks are fun and addicting! I have been on a scarf binge but I need to get back into the sock thing. It's usually my "at work" project since it's small enough to put in my cupboard. Have fun.

YEAH for sock knitting! I tried the 2 circ thing, but am actually a fan of the dpns. Sometimes I find it easier to use 4 needles instead of the 5, (knitting looks like a triangle instead of a square), but whatever works! On my pair just posted I used artyarns supermerino striping. It goes FAST as it uses size 5 needles and does all the work for you. Thanks for checking in on my blog!

Also, there's a knitalong for the somewhat cowl I'm getting ready to start over at if you want to check in with others to see what they're up to.

You are so lucky to be able to have Rob as your teacher. He is a sock "Celebrity". Once you get going, there's no stopping!

I'm so glad you are socking. Black as a first pair shows a lot of bravery, too. You probably think I'm kidding but I'm not. Honest. :o)

This blog a joy to read, you know.
