No Pictures

This is starting to get old I know. When I packed my bags to come home for the break, I forgot the USB cable to download pictures from my digital camera. Bummer, no new pictures to show. I swear I never use that camera....

I went to Palm Springs last week to check out Joshua Tree National Monument My boyfriend and I drove up there on Tuesday last week and putted around the desert cities. Palm Springs is quite a lively city. The streets are lined with upscale stores and there are tons of interesting people walking around. SO and I opted to eat at a restaurant that appeared to be frequented by locals instead of the tourist... a mexican restaurant that has been in existance since the 50's. Unfortunately I can't remember the name. It was ok. The nacho smell coming from the patio is what drew us in. The fish tacos were good. But presentation was really bad. It came with some limp cabbage on the side for garnish. Yuck! I almost hurled when I saw the cabbage. But I just concentrated on the people watching from our seats on the patio and before I knew it, we were done with the fish tacos.

SO and I always share entrees which is cool because I don't get too full and we usually get an appetizer so I get to have a little variety. Serving sizes are always so big!

We also drove around Highway 111 and stopped at a casino. There are about 5 casinos within 10 miles of each other. Lots of indian reservations. It was only about 7 pm when we started getting really tired. So we looked for a hotel. We didn't book a hotel first! That was really nerve wracking for me. I like to at least make sure that i have a place or plan to rest my head on a pillow whether it's a hotel room or a tent. We decided to "wing it" which freaked me out. The desert cities were not booked so we got a primo room at a Comfort Suites Inn that was accross the street from the The River which is a huge shopping center. We had wanted to get drinks and dessert after the mexican dinner. We finally ate dessert at Cheesecake Factory. I had never done that before since after a meal at the Cheesecake Factory, one rarely feels like even looking at dessert. I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake and Matt got the Tiramisu. Yum...

The next day we drove into Indio to visit the Shield's Date Gardens. We split a date shake and bought a date sampler and some coconut date candies for part of our lunch. Yummy.

Then we drove into the park. The entrance of the park was about 30 miles from the cities. We drove up to the Keyes view and hiked to a miners camp. The hike was about 6 miles but I was hurting after that one. I need to make sure that I start working out again. My joints have been giving me tons of problems lately and the hike wasn't so kind on them. I'm going to the doctor today to get myself checked out.

On the knitting front, I'm on the last few inches of ribbing of the orangina. I stopped a bit short and had a belly shirt. I decided it wasn't a good look for me so I picked up stitches and am currently adding to it. Hopefully I get it done soon. It's driving me crazy.

For my next project, I'd like to knit this.

The pattern can be found here. I have some Filatura di Crossa Ambra Camel Hair that is the same gauge. I looked online for some info on it but apparently no one has ever used it. It's a discontinued yarn that I got a few years ago at a sale from The Yarn Lady in Laguna. I hope it comes out ok. Or maybe I'll splurge for the specified Blue Sky Alpacca Silk. It looks heavenly knit up...

I leave for East Lansing on Saturday. I don't know if I'm going to want to get on the plane and leave my sunshiney place:(
